After completing the course, the participant will

Know: the course of the main events of the political process, its figures, socio-economic changes that took place in the Ukrainian lands, the main stages of the spiritual and cultural life of Ukrainian society, biographical data on prominent representatives of the clergy, culture, education and science, general trends in the development of Ukrainian lands.

Be able to:

Determine the chronological sequence of historical events; chronologically correlate the processes that took place on the lands of Ukraine with the general European trends of historical movement.
Show on a historical map the territories of Ukrainians’ settlement, territorial changes that took place, and compare them with the current borders of Ukraine.
Describe the political and administrative structure of Ukraine at different historical stages, the forms and principles of functioning of Ukrainian statehood.
Determine the essence of the Ukrainian national idea, the reasons for the development and features of the Ukrainian national and socio-political movements in the context of nation-building processes in Central and Eastern Europe.
Explain economic and social processes in Ukraine, the essence of the transition from traditional to industrial society; name the main features of modern society.
Describe and compare the situation of the Ukrainian population and the features of everyday life of Ukrainians at different stages of historical development and as part of different state formations.
Describe the phenomena of cultural and spiritual life; compare the ideas and values of the past with modern state-building ideas and cultural values of Ukrainians.
Analyze the economic, political and cultural activity of other ethnic groups/nations on the territory of Ukraine; characterize interethnic relations and give examples of interaction between Ukrainian and other national movements on the territory of Ukraine.
Determine the place and role of Ukrainians in the Commonwealth, the Russian Empire, the Austrian (Austro-Hungarian) Monarchy, the Soviet Union and other political entities, and give examples of Ukrainian contribution to the existence of these states.
Determine the social significance of historical events, trends in the development of Ukrainian society that dominated at different historical stages, and cause and effect relationships.
Search for historical information and use various sources of information (scientific monographs, popular science works, encyclopedias, periodicals, etc.)
Critically evaluate historical information and interpret it taking into account the multiplicity of approaches; form their own point of view and present it orally and in writing.
