Biography

Bolesta Ivan Mykhailovych, Professor of the Department of Radiophysics and Computer Technologies, Doctor of Physical and Mathematical Sciences, Professor.

 

In 1972, he graduated from the Faculty of Physics of the Ivan Franko National University of Lviv. After graduation, from 1972 to 1980, he worked as a junior researcher at the problematic research laboratory for the growth and study of the physical properties of crystals at Lviv University. From 1980 to 1982, he was a senior researcher in the research sector, assistant (1982 – 1986), associate professor (1986 – 1997), professor (1997 -1998) of the Department of Radioelectronic Materials Science, head (1998 – 2022) of the Department of Radiophysics and Computer Technology. In 2022, he was elected to the position of Professor of the Department of Radiophysics and Computer Technologies of the Faculty of Electronics and Computer Technologies of Ivan Franko National University of Lviv. From 1989 to 1991, he worked as the Deputy Dean of the Faculty of Physics for Research.

 

In 1979, he defended his dissertation for the degree of Candidate of Physical and Mathematical Sciences on “Investigation of the optical properties of crystals of the A2B72 type with a layered structure”, and in 1996 – his doctoral dissertation on “Electronic structure and optical spectra of impurities in halides of the A2BX4 and BX2 types”.

 

He was awarded the academic title of associate professor in 1988 and professor in 2001. Twice (in 1995 and 1997) he was awarded the honorary title of Soros Associate Professor of the International Renaissance Foundation.

 

In 2004, he completed a research fellowship at the Vienna University of Technology and has close cooperation with the National Laboratory for Nuclear Physics, Frascati, Italy.

 

He is a scientific supervisor of state budget topics approved by the Scientific Council of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine.

 

He is the scientific director of the Computer Modeling Laboratory of the Fractal Research and Education Center, established at Lviv National University in 2009.

 

Chairman of the Organizing Committee (since 2009) of the All-Ukrainian (since 2014 – Ukrainian-Polish) scientific and practical conference “Electronics and Information Technologies”.

 

Author of more than 200 scientific works, including monographs, 9 copyright certificates for inventions, 2 textbooks with the stamp of the Ministry, winner of the competition “University Scientist of 2003”, scientific adviser of 9 candidates of sciences, scientific adviser of doctoral dissertations.

 

Member of the National Academy of Sciences since 1989, since 2017 – a full member of the National Academy of Sciences. Member of the Ukrainian Physical Society (since 1990), editor-in-chief of the collection of scientific papers “Electronics and Information Technologies”, member of the editorial board of the Physical Collection of the National Academy of Sciences, “Lviv University Bulletin, Physical Series”, “Ukrainian Journal of Physical Optics”, member of the Specialized Academic Council for the defense of doctoral dissertations at Lviv University.

 

Member of the Expert Council on Computer Science at the State Commission for Licensing and Accreditation of Higher Education Institutions of I-IV accreditation levels (2009-2011).

 

Member of the Expert Council of the Ministry of Education and Science in Section 5: “Radio Engineering, Electronics and Telecommunications” (since 2018).

 

In 2017, he was awarded the honorary title of “Honored Professor of Ivan Franko National University of Lviv”.

 

By the Decree of the President of Ukraine of September 30, 2020, No. 416/2020, he was awarded the honorary title “Honored Worker of Education of Ukraine”, PO No. 021876.

 

Winner of the Regional Award for Scientific Institutions and Educational Institutions of the Lviv Regional State Administration and Lviv Regional Council (2020).

 

The main directions of scientific work are related to experimental studies and computer modeling of electronic and ionic processes in nanostructured materials and physical processes and devices of nanoplasmonics.
